A confrontation between vendors and government officials took place in Alameda Central this Sunday. During the conflict, an assault occurred against a woman identified as a leader of a feminist collective, who suffered a bruise on her eye as a result. The Secretariat of Citizen Security reported that the aggressors were public officials and committed to investigating the incident.
The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo, condemned the assault and called for the capture of those responsible to prevent the current unrest from escalating into more violent or even criminal situations. Meanwhile, the head of government of the capital, Clara Brugada, ordered an immediate investigation into the case.
Organizations like the Ciudad Diversa collective protested against the violence that occurred and criticized the lack of effective response from the police. During the confrontation, it was even observed how an officer briefly detained one of the aggressors, but he managed to escape without consequences.
Authorities are already reviewing security camera footage in the area to identify those responsible and clarify why they were not detained at the scene. The conflictual situation in Alameda Central reflects the existing tension between vendors, authorities, and social collectives that demand spaces in public areas.
